Have you ever made careful plans only to have life surprise you?
Jacob certainly did! After working seven long years to marry Rachel, he woke up the morning after the wedding to discover that things had not gone according to plan. It is one of the Bible's most unexpected—and memorable—stories.
At first glance, Genesis 29 seems to be about family drama and unexpected twists. But look a little closer and you'll discover something even more important: throughout the entire story, God is quietly at work. Even when people make mistakes, even when plans change, and even when life becomes confusing, God remains faithful.
That is wonderful news for us today. Most of us have experienced unexpected detours—a change in health, work, family, or future plans. Yet our God specializes in bringing hope out of disappointment and blessing out of life's surprises.
This month, let's remember that our confidence isn't found in perfect plans but in a perfect God. He is already at work, even when we can't yet see what He is doing. Trust Him, rejoice in His faithfulness, and remember that His grace is always greater than life's unexpected moments.
Grace and peace,
